One of the most recognizable sculptures in the Rotunda today, the Portrait Monument celebrates three of the founding figures of the women’s suffrage movement: Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Susan B. Anthony and Lucretia Mott. But what about the artist who made it? Adelaide Johnson was, like her subjects, larger than life—a woman who devoted her career to memorializing the fight for equality.
